One of the things that comes with working a night shift — which is essentially what we do when we spend the evening covering a Northern Region sports event and then are up until the wee hours posting videos and writing stories — is a bit of delirium.
Even from the comforts of our own homes — I usually write sitting my couch with one very cute and excessively spoiled cocker spaniel laying on each side of me — it’s hard not to get a bit loopy by 4 a.m.
That, I guess, is the only way I have of explaining to Lee standout senior forward J’Quita Babineaux why the video interview that we filmed Tuesday night never found its way into our video player. In the middle of the night I somehow accidentally deleted it. (I could blame Minnie or Cocoa — the aforementioned spoiled pups — for maybe hitting a button while I was up getting a diet coke? But the truth is they do little but snore after about 1 a.m., so I’m afraid this one is all on me.)
J’Quita’s interview was fantastic, and it’s a real shame that you all didn’t get to watch it. She was thoughtful and articulate and funny and confident. And though J’Quita stressed that the fourth-ranked Lancers (14-1) will take every game as it comes because they know that anyone in the Patriot District is capable of pulling an upset, she was also realistic enough to admit that their Jan. 31 home rematch with top-ranked and still undefeated T.C. Williams is circled on their calender.
“We’re ready for them,” Babineaux said.
And we’re all ready to see it. It’s circled on our calender, too.
